WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM YOUR TREATMENTS?
By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health. Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for a variety of conditions.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF ACUPUNCTURE IS WORKING?
Well, you should treat your body the same. When you first start doing acupuncture you'll notice bodily sensations more acutely, that is to say, you will be more aware of the little things you didn't notice before and more clued in to how your body is functioning overall. Your senses will be keener and more awakened.
HOW LONG DO EFFECTS OF ACUPUNCTURE LAST?
The needles will stay in place for between 5 and 30 minutes. The number of treatments needed depend on the individual. A person with a chronic condition may need one to two treatments a week over several months. An acute problem normally improves after 8 to 12 sessions.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT?
When asked to describe their experience, first time acupuncture clients describe the treatment as being pleasurable and relaxing. Most people fall asleep during treatment. Others feel as if they are floating with a tingling, warm sensation. Other sensations that may be felt are heaviness, heat and cold.
HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE RELIEVE PAIN?
Traditional Chinese acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin at specific "acupoints." This may relieve pain by releasing endorphins, the body's natural pain-killing chemicals, and by affecting the part of the brain that governs serotonin, a brain chemical involved with mood.
WHY DOES ACUPUNCTURE NOT HURT?
Acupuncture needles are solid, stainless steel needles that are usually not much larger than a strand of hair. Acupuncture needles go between tissues, making them less painful.
IS ACUPUNCTURE LONG LASTING?
What makes acupuncture a unique pain treatment is that its effects may be long-lasting. In one study, it eased chronic pain in the neck and shoulder areas and the headaches it caused, with the effects lasting for months.
